No 1: WANTING

New Hampshire is an emerald gemstone in summer
And I a heavy drop of rain sweat on its surface
I’ve lost and found myself hundreds of times in hundreds of American miles
My fingerprints laid fresh on the interstates
I think my eyes come from the wet June sky
My heart from the pull of the river
One day I’ll marry his breath
And find myself in the fibers of his clothes
And his voice will course through my veins in vibrations
Trigger the spark in the beat of my blood
But for now I press myself deep into the soil
I kiss the lips of the mountains
Of the curve of the dam
Of the swaying of things
Because wanting puts a bitterness in me
I’ll make love to this life I have
And pray it’s enough
