No7: BRIDGES
KATIE KERN
We used to take the west side highway to get into the city.
A busy road along the water.
People rode their bikes on the sidewalks as traffic crowded the road.
The bridge was a specific part of our trip.
Our trips to the city were monthly and when I saw the bridge I knew we were real close.
The George Washington bridge connected New Jersey to New York.
I hate New Jersey.
But, that bridge felt special. Crowded with cars, there was no beauty, but it was important. People needed that bridge.
Until the age of 10, I thought that bridge was one of the 7 wonders of the world. I mean that. Right next to the Taj Majal.
I worshipped that bridge and that city
Although ridiculous, that bridge and that city felt like a wonder of the world to me.
I miss her.
I miss that city.
I miss that wonder of my world.
