No 4: SONG OF THE DUNE
MIA FOSTER
The sweet dune grass whispers
A familiar song
Quietly, calmly
Whipping in the wind
faltering green in the wake of the heat
Its sugary smell spreading across the beach
everywhere it greets me
Its song is the same
A harmony of sweetness and humble surrender
Knowing vibrancy will fade
Weakened by the wind
The grass continues singing
With an acceptance of what will be
The wisdom of the reeds
Dry blades swaying with their song
exude the aroma of our summer days
And the season’s gradual fade
We listen
hoping one day we will sing like the dune grass
The melody of acceptance
And the harmony of resilience
And pass on our song to the next listener
