No3: VESSELS (FROM YOUTH)!

JOELLE WILLIAMS

Vessels Of My Childhood yearns to communicate how the Coronavirus Pandemic has affected the physical appearances of the outside world through a nostalgic tone. When conceptualizing a common theme throughout the photos, I thought it’d be interesting to see how the places I frequented when I was young, once full of life and seen through a child-like lens, have slightly “deteriorated” through the last six months of 2020. My time as a kid is slowly running out; I’m entering my senior year of high school and am beginning to think about how and what I want to do in life. Not only that, but I’m also facing these feats in the middle of a global pandemic. These new pressures have made me feel nostalgic for the places and memories that once shaped me so long ago. So, in an effort to connect my youth, my impending adulthood, and the current pandemic, I came up with this idea. Using a high contrast black and white film, I hoped to capture the current ominosity and gloom of locations that once held so much warmth for a child-me.
