No 3: A CAPPUCCINO?
KATIE KERN
I hear the symphony
The calm ballad,
The soft piano
playing through the speakers
The two friends in their mid twenties gossip about the friend who couldn’t be there
The 30 year old man with a scarf wears glasses taking up his face while working on his computer
A young teenager comes in alone with cash that her mom gave her to buy a decaffeinated sweet drink
An artist with beaded necklaces sits quietly on the thing closest to a couch, slowly sipping their cappuccino
The 50 year old professor grades papers on one of the high chairs drinking a chamomile tea
The 18 year olds come in asking for chais with a niche milk, wearing baggy jeans
I have been dreaming of coffee shops recently, longing to be sitting inside of one
Beauty is quietly embedded in the normal experiences we never seized to appreciate
Normalcy has now become our fantasy
