No 3: DAYDREAMER

LINDSEY MACHADO

a visual piece

Lindsey was given an assortment of random objects to make a sculpture with. One of the objects was a large bra of an older woman who had passed. She enjoyed the concept of something that was so close to someone's heart (Literally speaking) taking on a new life. She didn't know this woman's life so she pulled inspiration from a safe space for women. Lindsey worked on a community project building fairy houses and writing to the children in her neighborhood. She used similar methods when constructing the chimera-esque creature. The pieces are constructed of an assortment of natural materials from a dried gourd, dried flowers, beetles, rabbit fur from salem, the bra, beads and scraps from her metalsmithing. Lindsey often uses animals as symbols. She wanted to represent the angler fish because they light their own path. Oftentimes before she goes to bed she pretends to be on an island and thinks of all the things she would make to take care of herself. She wanted to create her own dreamlike world.
